CHILDREN OF MEN

Reviewed by George Wilkinson

Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, is a haunting and visually striking film that portrays a dystopian world where hope is seldom found. Based on P.D. James’s 1992 novel, the film imagines a bleak future in which humanity faces extinction due to mass infertility, leading to a societal collapse marked by violence, despair, and totalitarian control.

Set in 2027, a world in which no child has been born for nearly two decades. Despite this Theo Faron (Clive Owen), a disillusioned former activist, is thrust into a life-changing mission to protect a miraculously pregnant woman, Kee (Claire-Hope Ashitey). With the fate of humanity and the unborn child at stake Theo is forced to confront his own apathy whilst navigating a world brimming with violence and despair.
